I'm reading the TOS Pocket novel #24 entitled "Killing Time" and
ran across another Vulcan word. It is "T'kaul'ama". The context
goes like this (Spock thinking this)....
... Regardless of all of Sarek's teachings, he still felt compassion
-- particularly for his crew, his ship, and for the few lifeforms
he called friends. If Vulcan wished to consider him T'kaul'ama
for that fall from logic, it was a sentence he would willingly accept.

Like his brother Sybok?

So, anyone got anymore info on this word or have heard it before

This is completely new to me. Are there any other uses of the word from
later in the novel?

From the context, it seems to mean "in (official?) disfavor, exile,
outcast, heretic, apostate, etc." - i.e. the Vulcan equivalent of Klingon
discommendation {naDHa'ghach} [TNG "Sins of the Father"].

Some similar Vulcan terms:

*ak'spra* - unorthodoxy. This refers to a Vulcan who follows a
philosophy that is deemed to be inadequate; a heretic. [Zvelebil]

*aksh'lz* - feel ashamed/mortified/humiliated (sorry for one's
illogical actions) (emotional label) [Zvelebil]

*k'torr skann* - an outcast (lit. "without family"). A person who
has been disowned by their family or clan, for whatever reason.
Also spelled *ktorr skann*. [SOURCE?]

*vrekasht* - exile, outcast (Old Vul.) [SOURCE?]

Does anyone recognize where the last two come from?

Shaya tonat, Selek. Th'i-oxalra.

Hmm... *vrekatra* "katric ark" (a receptacle for storing a katra outside a
body) begins with the same syllable. If it also comes from "Old Vulcan",
which seems likely, then perhaps we can postulate that *vre-* = "out,
outside" or "remove, expel" or the like.

Just a thought.

And a Vulcan personal name.... S't'kal...... he is an admiral in an
alternate timeline.

Thea...... she is the Romulan commander from "Enterprise Incident" but
here she is the
Praetor. (a traditionally male role, but she has
secretly assumed the position)
There were also two male slaves named Tasme and Sekor.

And some Romulan ship names....
Ravon.... a war ship
T'Favaron.... the transport ship for the Praetor.

Some more Vulcan words from the novel "Killing Time"...
T'hy'la....... companion, friend, brother.

Long known in Vulcan fandom indicating a life-long bond, usually between
friends: i.e. friend, brother, lover, companion, soul-sibling. I believe
the term originated in the pro-novel "Dwellers in the Crucible". It
appears in the ST5 novel (not the film):

"*Qual se tu, Sybok*? [Is it thou, Sybok?] ..."
[Spock] had used the intimate pronoun ­ the one reserved for
one's *t'hyla*, one's closest friend or dearest relative.

Marketa also spells it *t'hyla* (only one apostrophe) in her transcription
and notes that it is:

pronounced so that there is a strong onset [t] followed by offset
overshort pause with glottal catch ['], with main dynamic accent
on the first vowel of the diphthong, hence [t+'haila].

I already had this in my notes, without attribution, as:

*t'lema* - "one who walks in dreams", an obscure reference to
precognition and possibly a method for locating a *t'hyla*

Does anyone know whether *t'lema* has been used elsewhere? (The personal
and ship names captjim posted weren't in my notes, so I'm wondering if this
is a previously known word used by the author of "Killing Time".)

Hmmm... How many names does this woman have?! <g>

In "Vulcan's Heart" she's known as Liviana Sharvanek, but in Diane Duane's
Romulan novels she remains unnamed but in disgrace: her name was taken from
her (!) and she was sent into exile, her whereabouts and fate
unknown. (OTOH her aunt [mother's sister] has the mellifluous name Ael
i-Mhiessan t'Rllaillieu - "Ael of the Rllaillieu clan, from (the city of)
Mhiessan" - and is featured in all of Duane's novels.)

Anyone know of any other names - either in pro- or fan-novels? I vaguely
recall reading a couple more.
